Farmers Protest in Opole

At 6:00 AM today, a farmers’ protest began in front of the KOWR headquarters in Opole. The demonstration is expected to last until the evening.

Farmers’ Protest

Today’s strike is yet another in a series of protests since the December 13 coalition took power in Poland. Farmers are opposing what they see as the EU’s excessive regulations, particularly those imposed by the so-called Green Deal.

This morning, a convoy of several dozen tractors arrived in Opole as part of the protest, which began at 6:00 AM.

Farmers from multiple districts in the region have gathered outside the National Center for Agricultural Support (KOWR). Local media report that traffic disruptions in the provincial capital could continue until 6:00 PM.

Three Key Demands

The farmers have three main demands:

  • Opposition to the European Union’s agricultural policies
  • A halt to the import of agricultural products from Ukraine
  • Measures to address rising production costs

Additionally, representatives of the Independent Self-Governing Trade Union of Individual Farmers “Solidarity” oppose KOWR’s policies, particularly the transfer of farmland to state-owned companies.

They are also calling for greater support for Polish agriculture and stronger protections for the domestic market.
