Fierce Attack by the Authorities on Prof. Cenckiewicz. Leśkiewicz: They Want to Make It Harder for the President to Perform His Duties

“Thanks to the disclosure of these documents, no one today is considering basing the defense of the territory of the Republic of Poland on the Vistula line. The presentation of these documents exposed the actions of the then authorities—hence the current government’s fury,” said Rafał Leśkiewicz, spokesperson for President Karol Nawrocki, commenting on yet another stage of the December 13 coalition’s vendetta against Prof. Sławomir Cenckiewicz.

On Friday, the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office announced that an indictment had been filed against Mariusz Błaszczak, Sławomir Cenckiewicz, as well as Agnieszka Glapiak and Piotr Z. The case concerns the 2023 declassification of part of the “Warta” operational plan for the use of the armed forces. The prosecution alleges that the former defense minister exceeded his authority in order to secure personal benefits for Law and Justice by removing the secrecy classification from parts of the documents, which were then used in the election campaign. According to investigators, this action “caused exceptionally serious harm to the Republic of Poland.”

According to the prosecution, Błaszczak disclosed “fragments taken out of context” from the “Warta” plan, interpreting them in a way intended to suggest that “the then political leadership did not want to defend Poland from the very beginning of an enemy’s aggression, but only after the eastern part of Poland had been occupied, on the Vistula line.” “Such an interpretation in no way follows from the analysis of the entirety of these strategic-level operational planning documents,” the prosecution emphasized.

The entire matter, however, is a form of revenge for the revelation of plans—binding under the PO-PSL government—to surrender eastern Poland to the enemy in the event of an attack from that direction.

Presidential Spokesperson: A Political Struggle

In an interview with the portal Interia, the spokesperson for President Karol Nawrocki was asked whether, in light of the prosecutor’s actions, a change could be expected in the position of the head of the National Security Bureau.

Rafał Leśkiewicz replied: “There will be no change. This is only information about the filing of an indictment against Prof. Sławomir Cenckiewicz.”

“Prof. Sławomir Cenckiewicz, under Polish law, is presumed innocent. We are convinced that the verdict in court will be favorable to Prof. Cenckiewicz. This is revenge for the film Reset, in which he revealed the ties of key figures in the current government with the Russian Federation’s special services,” he continued.

When asked about President Nawrocki’s reaction to this information, he said that “the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland maintains that Prof. Sławomir Cenckiewicz has not committed any crime.”

In his view, “this is an element of political struggle against the president, and the subject matter of the indictment is absolutely untrue. All the actions undertaken by the prosecution against Prof. Cenckiewicz—and previously by the special services, attempting to strip him of his security clearance—constitute a campaign against a devoted servant of Poland, a historian, and a professor.”

When it was pointed out that his words sounded like “a major vote of no confidence in the prosecution and the services,” Leśkiewicz confirmed this.

“Yes, this is indeed a vote of no confidence in the prosecution and the services, because the judgment of the Provincial Administrative Court in the case of Prof. Cenckiewicz’s security clearance overturned the false and manipulative arguments put forward by the Prime Minister’s Office and the special services,” he explained.

He added: “After the June 17 ruling, it turned out that Prof. Cenckiewicz holds valid security clearance, and that all the oppressive actions against him were motivated solely by political considerations. They were meant only to hinder the president in performing the highest office.”

According to him, “the very fact of lawfully and procedurally declassifying and then making public excerpts of archival documents from 2011 revealed the various concessions that the then government was prepared to make regarding the security of Poles.”

“Thanks to the disclosure of these documents, no one today is considering basing the defense of the territory of the Republic of Poland on the Vistula line. The presentation of these documents exposed the actions of the then authorities—hence the current government’s fury,” he added.
