A man who shouted “Don’t Be Afraid of Tusk” in 2024 has been definitively sentenced to a restriction of liberty in the form of community service. The ruling was issued by a court in Wrocław.
The case of Mr. Krzysztof from Wrocław has returned to court. During the 2024 floods, he protested against the decision to bar TV Republika from attending a meeting of the crisis management team. Outside the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Office, the young man chanted the slogan well known to TV Republika viewers: “Don’t Be Afraid of Tusk.” For that chant, he was sentenced to community service.
The man was convicted for insulting “a constitutional body of the Republic of Poland.” Speaking to TV Republika, he said that he intended to appeal because he knows exactly what he shouted, and “Don’t Be Afraid of Tusk!” is not the vulgar expression attributed to him.
Following the appeal, the court reconsidered the case and upheld the original ruling.
“The Court of Appeal in Wrocław has upheld the first-instance verdict over the chant ‘DON’T BE AFRAID OF TUSK.’ Mr. Krzysztof has been sentenced to community service for his protest during the 2024 floods,” TV Republika journalist Janusz Życzkowski reported.
