A year ago, Ryszard Kapuściński, the first President of the Gazeta Polska Clubs, passed away. On the first anniversary of his death, the Gazeta Polska Clubs community paid tribute to his memory. “He left us more than a memory – he left us a direction,” they wrote.
The late Ryszard Kapuściński was laid to rest at Rakowicki Cemetery in Krakow. By decision of then-President Andrzej Duda, he was posthumously awarded the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
In a moving speech, the editor-in-chief of Gazeta Polska recalled his first meetings with Kapuściński and the beginnings of their cooperation, which resulted in the creation of more than 500 clubs. “Ryszard was neither a charismatic leader nor someone who would go to the barricades, but he had another quality that was crucial in such a situation. He knew how to talk to people, how to negotiate – and that required hours of time,” Sakiewicz emphasized.
The first President of the Gazeta Polska Clubs died on January 15, 2025, after a long illness. His memory was honored by the clubs by lighting candles at his grave and with a short message: “He left us more than a memory – he left us a direction.”
