President Karol Nawrocki has exercised the right of pardon with respect to three individuals, presidential spokesperson Rafał Leśkiewicz announced. The details of all the pardons are now known.
President Karol Nawrocki reviewed a total of eight applications for pardon. In five cases, he did not exercise the right of pardon. Although the courts adjudicating at first instance or at both first and second instance issued positive opinions on the convicted persons’ requests for clemency, the Prosecutor General submitted motions to the President of the Republic of Poland requesting that the right of pardon not be applied with respect to those five individuals. President Nawrocki accepted those motions.
In three cases, the President granted pardons to the applicants.
The first person pardoned had been convicted of fraud, causing significant damage in economic transactions, and harming creditors. President Nawrocki took into account the difficult family situation resulting from the serious illness of a close relative, the necessity to provide care for that person and for minors, a positive community background report, the considerable passage of time since the offenses were committed, compliance with the legal order after the judgment was issued, and the inability to make use of protective measures provided for under the Executive Criminal Code.
The second person had been convicted of making criminal threats. The President considered the very difficult health condition and advanced age of the convicted person, the long time elapsed since the offense, and compliance with the legal order following the judgment.
The third person had been convicted of unintentionally causing a catastrophe in land traffic, the consequence of which was the death of a person or serious bodily harm to many individuals. What determined the decision to grant a pardon in this case?
President Nawrocki took into account the very difficult health condition of the convicted person, advanced age, expression of remorse, apologies offered to the injured parties, the incidental nature of the act, and a positive community assessment.
By decisions dated 2 February 2026, the President of the Republic of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, exercised the right of pardon with respect to three individuals.
“In making these decisions, the President of the Republic of Poland was guided by humanitarian considerations, positive opinions of the courts, as well as motions from the Prosecutor General to exercise the right…”

In addition, the President of the Republic of Poland signed four decisions in which, pursuant to Article 567 § 2 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, he requested that the Prosecutor General submit the case files in four matters. This provision states: “The Prosecutor General shall submit the case files to the President of the Republic of Poland or shall initiate ex officio pardon proceedings in every instance in which the President so decides,” Rafał Leśkiewicz reported.
