On January 7th, Filia nr 16 of the Municipal Public Library in Katowice will host Flora Macanensis, a vernissage by the artistic duo Marta Stanisława Sala and Cheong Kin Man. The event delves into Macau, one of China’s Special Administrative Regions, and their participation in the Macao International Art Biennale 2023.
Meet Marta Stanisława Sala
Sala, a multidisciplinary artist from Poland, specializes in multimedia works ranging from paintings to video projects. A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, she has collaborated with various collectives advocating for environmental and cultural heritage preservation. Since 2015, Sala has been based in Berlin, focusing on cross-cultural exchanges and sustainability.
Cheong Kin Man: A Visual Anthropologist
Macau-born Cheong Kin Man is an acclaimed artist and writer. His works critically examine postcolonial identity and eurocentrism through films, writings, and visual anthropology. With works presented in over 40 countries, his award-winning ethnography Bezużyteczna fikcja showcases his innovative approach to storytelling.
Collaborative Vision
Together, Sala and Kin Man create compelling autoethnographies using textiles, video, and graphics. Their works bridge cultural narratives, offering fresh perspectives on identity and heritage.
