On Monday, one of Zbigniew Ziobro’s defense lawyers, attorney Bartosz Lewandowski, announced that the former minister of justice and prosecutor general under the Law and Justice (PiS) government had been granted political asylum and international protection in Hungary. In a post on the X platform, Ziobro wrote that “he is choosing to fight political banditry and lawlessness” and that “he is resisting the advancing dictatorship” in Poland. The matter was addressed on the air of RMF FM radio by Law and Justice (PiS) MP Mateusz Morawiecki.

“I am not surprised in the sense that I read the justification. Political asylum was granted because the prosecution operates as a politically motivated body. Let us ask ourselves whether it is politically motivated. Of course it is politically motivated,” he said.

He also emphasized that “it is worth asking whether the prosecution is indeed politicized.” “Of course it is. Is Zbigniew Ziobro being pursued for political reasons? Of course he is being pursued for political reasons. That is why, for me, this decision is not surprising,” he announced. Asked about Ziobro’s words in which he declared that “he is choosing to fight a dictatorship,” Morawiecki pointed out that, in his opinion, under Tusk’s rule Poland is experiencing “something between a dictatorship and a democracy – a democrature.”
