Former intelligence officer faces charges over alleged disclosure of classified information

“Since the December 13 Coalition came to power, the state apparatus, the prosecution service and the intelligence agencies have been used to pursue political objectives,” Col. Mariusz Kozłowski said outside the prosecutor’s office. According to investigators, the former Military Counterintelligence Service officer allegedly committed an offence involving the protection of classified information.

In early July, Niezależna.pl portal reported that prosecutors had summoned Col. Mariusz Kozłowski for questioning as a suspect. The reason was that the former Military Counterintelligence Service officer had disclosed, during an episode of Interview with a Hooligan in December 2024, a series of interviews conducted by journalist Piotr Lisiewicz on TV Republika, what his duties had involved while serving in the agency.

“I said that I had worked on eastern affairs as an operational officer. Because of that, the crypto-Military Counterintelligence Service, WSI General Jarosław Stróżyk and his henchmen launched a review procedure against me and revoked the security clearance that I had been receiving from counterintelligence for the past quarter of a century. They also notified the prosecutor’s office, alleging that by making those remarks I had disclosed information classified as top secret,”

Col. Kozłowski said two weeks ago.

The head of security at TV Republika appeared at the prosecutor’s office at noon on Monday. Less than two hours later, Kozłowski and his lawyer spoke outside the building.

“The colonel has been charged with an offence under Article 265 of the Criminal Code. In my assessment, the charges are unfounded. We will demonstrate this in the course of the proceedings in the near future. We also assume that the colonel will need time to prove his innocence, but I am confident that the truth will prevail and that the charges will ultimately be found to be groundless,”

Kozłowski’s lawyer said.

“Since the December 13 Coalition came to power, the state apparatus, the prosecution service and the intelligence agencies have been used to pursue political objectives. I was informed of my rights and obligations as a person facing charges. The decision setting out the charges and their scope was read out to me,” Col. Kozłowski said.

“Why is military counterintelligence using the prosecution service today? Why have I found myself before prosecutors today? Because in December 2024 I gave an interview to Piotr Lisiewicz on TV Republika. Today, General Stróżyk is trying to take revenge,”

TV Republika’s security chief said.
