In an interview with Niezależna.pl, former Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski shared his perspective on Donald Trump’s potential second presidential term, describing it as a “hope for a return to normalcy.” According to Waszczykowski, Trump’s campaign resonated with Americans due to its focus on economic issues, job security, and the dangers posed by illegal immigration. In contrast, he argued, Kamala Harris’s campaign failed to present a positive agenda, focusing instead on ideological issues aimed at liberal elites, media, and celebrities.
Waszczykowski believes that Trump’s traditional conservative stance—prioritizing economic development, demographic strength, and family values rooted in natural rights—could counter the progressive “social engineering” he feels challenges cultural and traditional norms. He praised Trump’s approach for revealing the “hypocrisy” of liberal politicians who, he argues, mask their true political and economic goals behind progressive jargon and political correctness.
Reflecting on Trump’s foreign policy, Waszczykowski noted that while American elections typically do not center on international issues, Trump’s first term showed a strong commitment to global matters, which benefited Polish interests. He expressed concerns about Western moves to resolve the Ukraine conflict by freezing military actions, a plan that could draw Russia back into European economic cooperation—a risky prospect for Poland. Waszczykowski urged Poland to align closely with the U.S. to ensure any peace process does not compromise Polish security interests.
