    Gas Explosion from Septic Tank Near Kraków: Building Damaged, Injuries Reported, Rescue Operation Ongoing

    A gas explosion from a septic tank caused significant damage to a residential building in the village of Ratajów, in the Słomniki municipality near Kraków. The incident occurred on Thursday, October 17, just before 6 PM. A 90-year-old man was injured in the explosion, and emergency services rushed to the scene. The man received immediate medical assistance and was later transported by ambulance to a hospital in Kraków.

    Multiple rescue units, including firefighters from JRG 7 PSP Kraków and local volunteer fire brigades from Słomniki, Miłocice, and Niedźwiedź, were dispatched to the site. Police officers from Kraków and paramedics from Słomniki also responded. Due to the extensive structural damage to the building, specialized rescue teams, building inspectors, and forensic technicians were called in to assess the situation.

    Authorities have stated that such a powerful explosion from gases accumulating in a septic tank is extremely rare. The rescue operation is ongoing as emergency teams work to secure the area and investigate the cause of the blast.
