German Member of the European Parliament with Polish roots, Tomasz Froelich, appeared yesterday at the Polish-German border. He brought a small gift for the Polish volunteers.
In recent weeks, the practice of pushing migrants from Germany into Poland has intensified. In response, Poles have organized grassroots initiatives such as the Border Defense Movement to counter the actions of the German services. The activities of Polish citizens trying to stop this practice have been met with harsh criticism—both from the Polish ruling coalition led by Donald Tusk and from the German side.
Meanwhile, German MEP Tomasz Froelich, a member of the AfD party and of Polish descent, visited the Polish-German border in Lubieszyn yesterday and, according to media reports, brought several boxes of pizza for the Poles stationed at the border.
“Tensions are rising at the Polish-German border. We push migrants out, the Poles refuse to accept them, and after a short time they return. It’s a migration ping-pong. In the meantime, patrols have formed at the border, and I spoke with them. In 2015, such patrols would have made much more sense across Europe than all those naive people throwing around teddy bears. Maybe we would have avoided a lot of trouble,” Froelich said in a post on social media.
He noted that he told the activists present at the border that “this ping-pong is not a lasting solution.”
“It is not in the interest of Germany, nor of other European nations. In fact, it pits them against one another,” he added.
The border visit involving Froelich has sparked numerous reactions on social media.
As usual, top-class behavior, respect @TomaszFroelich! 👏
