Germany: AfD enjoys the greatest support. Serious problems for CDU and SPD

Alternative for Germany (AfD) has once again become the leader of nationwide polls. As many as 26 percent of Germans would like to vote for the party, according to the latest survey published by the INSA institute for BILD am Sonntag.

AfD maintains strong support

According to the election poll of September 27, prepared by INSA for BILD am Sonntag, Alternative for Germany (AfD) can count on 26 percent of the vote, which would translate into 184 seats in the 630-member Bundestag.

In second place would be the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) with 25 percent support, which would give it 177 seats in the German lower house. Meanwhile, the current coalition partner of the Christian Democrats, the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), can expect 15 percent support. The Bundestag would also include the Greens with 12 percent support (85 seats) and the Left with 11 percent support (78 representatives in the Bundestag). With such levels of support, it would be impossible to form a majority coalition of CDU/CSU and SPD, which currently governs Germany. An additional coalition partner such as the Greens would instead lead to even greater instability within the government. Such a situation could result in the collapse of the coalition and early elections, as happened last December in the case of the SPD, the Greens, and the FDP.
