Germany Could Become a Muslim-Majority Country Due to Uncontrolled Immigration, Cardinal Müller Warns

Cardinal Gerhard Müller has warned that Germany could become a majority Muslim country within two or three decades due to uncontrolled immigration. In an interview with the blog Le Salon Beige, he emphasized that 30% of Germany’s population does not have German origins, and that migration policies are leading to increased violence and the erosion of Christian identity.

The Cardinal criticized recent migration policies, which, in his view, prioritize mass acceptance of immigrants over social cohesion, allocating millions of euros for subsidies and housing without requiring reciprocity. He warned that the depletion of public resources could lead to social conflicts, and even a “civil war.” Müller cited data of 18 knife attacks daily, along with two to three group assaults against women and girls every day, pointing to growing violence and attacks on the police as evidence of a loss of state control. In many German neighborhoods, he said, the law is no longer enforced, and the sense of security is deteriorating.

On the cultural level, Müller highlighted the decline of Catholics in his hometown of Mainz, from 70% half a century ago to 27% today, caused not only by secularization but also by mass Muslim immigration. In schools, Muslim children now outnumber Christian children, and Christians are limiting public expressions of their faith for fear of “offending” others. The Cardinal compared this process to the historic Islamization of North Africa, warning that Europe may follow a similar path.

Müller also criticized the alliance of the post-communist left with Islam, which he argued accelerates the dechristianization of the West, as well as politicians who yield to the demands of Muslim communities, thereby weakening democracy.

He further accused some bishops of avoiding confrontation with the issue out of fear of losing popularity. He stressed the need for evangelization based on God’s love and for the defense of Europe’s Christian identity. For Latin America, which has not yet experienced mass immigration and Islamization, his words serve as a warning about the consequences of indecisive migration policies and unchecked tolerance, which may lead to the loss of social cohesion and cultural identity.
