End of CPN. Drivers Show Fuel Prices Climbing

The government’s CPN program came to an end at the end of June. As of July 1, fuel prices have increased. Drivers have been sharing online how much more they will have to pay at filling stations from one day to the next.

The “Lower Fuel Prices” program (in Polish: Ceny Paliw Niżej, abbreviated as CPN), announced by Prime Minister Donald Tusk, expired on June 30. As a result, the VAT rate on fuel has risen from 8 percent to 23 percent. Price increases at filling stations have already exceeded the previously announced 50 groszy per litre, reaching even higher levels.

Photos of fuel price displays at petrol stations have already appeared online. After midnight, prices at some stations jumped by as much as 80 groszy per litre, with the cost of fuel in some locations surpassing 7 złoty per litre.

Drivers have little reason to celebrate, as many had planned summer holiday trips, and the sudden increase in fuel costs may force them to revise their travel plans.

Many social media users have also recalled a quote from Donald Tusk during the election campaign, when he promised that if he came to power, fuel would cost 5.19 złoty per litre.
