Karol Nawrocki’s dramatic account of losing consciousness during the presidential campaign sparked a wave of reactions. A series of social media posts by Roman Giertych attracted particular attention. The Civic Coalition (KO) MP published insulting and mocking comments directed at the president, referring to the events Nawrocki described. He also made a number of unusual insinuations.
A recently published book by the publishing house Biały Kruk, recording a conversation between Professor Andrzej Nowak and Karol Nawrocki, describes, among other things, an incident during which the then-presidential candidate lost consciousness.
Excerpts from the publication have already circulated online. According to Nawrocki’s account, after delivering a speech lasting several minutes outside the town hall in Ząbkowice Śląskie, he was walking toward the campaign bus that was to take him to the railway platform when, as he put it, it felt as though someone had suddenly “switched off” his body.
“I finish speaking and suddenly I feel that something is very wrong with me. A sudden weakness, as if I had taken a hard punch to the jaw,” he recalled.
Despite this, he tried to carry on as normal, waving to people, speaking with supporters and journalists. He asked one of his associates for water and requested to be taken to the campaign bus, where he lay down on the floor. What happened next, however, was later described by his security personnel as scenes resembling a horror movie.
“They said it looked like a fountain and compared it to The Exorcist. My legs were kicking, my body was convulsing, and I was vomiting uncontrollably,” the president recounted.
The bus was stopped, its windows were covered with black curtains, and everyone except Nawrocki stepped outside. He then lost consciousness. When he regained awareness, he said both his suit and the interior of the bus were “completely splattered.”
The author of the book also commented on the incident. In his opinion, it may have been an attempt to poison Karol Nawrocki and eliminate him from the presidential campaign.
“They tried to poison Karol Nawrocki. Simply poison him and remove him from the campaign at the moment when it had become clear that he was heading toward victory and was no longer a candidate destined to lose,” Professor Nowak said in a video published online.
President’s Account Prompts Giertych’s Response
Although the president’s account received widespread media attention and many reactions expressing sympathy, Roman Giertych, a Civic Coalition MP, published a series of highly provocative and mocking social media posts.
In one of them, he wrote:
“Interesting, Karol, that you believe your loss of consciousness, convulsions, and vomiting were caused by kissing women’s hands rather than by the white powder you supposedly take every 15 minutes.”
In another post, he sarcastically remarked:
“I think I’ll file a complaint against Nawrocki’s team for leaving him unconscious in his own vomit on the bus instead of calling an ambulance. That was inhumane. Failing to provide assistance to the head of the Institute of National Remembrance by his closest political associates, out of fear of the campaign consequences of investigating the cause of his collapse, was a serious act of negligence.”
He continued:
“Why didn’t they call an ambulance for an unconscious man? What was the reason? Why didn’t they notify the police about a suspected poisoning? Did any of them cooperate with the poisoner? Who supplied the snus that day? Was it even snus? The prosecutor’s office should clarify all of this.”
In another post, Giertych wrote:
“It’s a pity that Mr. Karol Nawrocki didn’t report this ‘assassination attempt’ during the campaign. Blood tests could then have been performed to determine what poisoned him…”
