Former Southern Hospital doctor defended after Tusk questions his credibility

Following Dr Emil Jędrzejewski’s high-profile interview about the situation at Southern Hospital, numerous comments emerged questioning his credibility. The former hospital employee told Kanał Zero about alleged irregularities in the hospital’s Emergency Department, claiming, among other things, that medical procedures had been carried out improperly and that mistakes may have led to serious complications, or even patients’ deaths. Dr Narcyz Sadłoń defended the doctor on TV Republika.

Danuta Holecka addressed the matter on TV Republika’s Gość Dzisiaj (Eng. Today’s Guest) programme.

“Today, after that interview, there have been many critical comments directed at Dr Emil Jędrzejewski. Donald Tusk first said that everything needed to be clarified, but later, after prosecutors had questioned Jędrzejewski, he said that the credibility of Mr Emil Jędrzejewski and his sensational statements seemed doubtful following his questioning by the prosecutor’s office,” Holecka said.

Narcyz Sadłoń: “He is an excellent specialist, an excellent doctor”

In response, Dr Narcyz Sadłoń pointed out that the case required a thorough investigation by the appropriate institutions.

“Given the seriousness of the allegations, the institutions appointed for this purpose will examine everything down to the smallest detail, and those responsible for any abuses, negligence, or defamation, and that is the key word, will not go unpunished,”

he stressed.

In his opinion, however, the authority of the doctor who decided to speak publicly about his concerns regarding the hospital’s functioning is already being undermined at this stage.

“Therefore, the authority of Dr Jędrzejewski is being challenged here, even though his successor, the head of surgery at Southern Hospital, said that he is an excellent specialist and an excellent doctor,”

he noted.

Sadłoń also made no secret of his own opinion regarding the doctor’s competence.

“And that is not true, he is an excellent specialist and an excellent doctor,”

he said.

The interview that stirred Poland

Dr Jędrzejewski’s interview came in the wake of reports published by Zero.pl concerning Dawid Kacprzyk, the former coordinator of Southern Hospital’s Emergency Department. According to those reports, the doctor, who was undergoing specialist training in anaesthesiology, was to have earned PLN 1.6 million last year. The portal also reported alleged preferential treatment of Civic Coalition politicians in the department.

Two investigations have been launched in connection with the reports concerning Southern Hospital. The first concerns suspected fraud involving an amount exceeding half a million PLN, while the second concerns possible abuse of power by a public official, including the rules for qualifying patients for admission to the Emergency Department. Inspections are also being carried out by the National Health Fund and Warsaw City Hall, which has announced an audit of all municipal hospital emergency departments.

As Dr Sadłoń emphasised, the final assessment of the allegations should be left to the institutions conducting the proceedings. Until the inspections and investigations are completed, the matter remains under examination.
