Government Hiding Number of Migrants from Germany. Matysiak on Radio Republika: “The Information Blockade Is No Accident”

In a recent interview with Radio Republika, MP Paulina Matysiak from the Razem party addressed key political issues, including discrepancies in data on migrants, the upcoming inauguration of President Karol Nawrocki, and the anticipated government reshuffle. Speaking with Adrian Stankowski, Matysiak emphasized the problem of government communication and the role of disinformation in the public debate.

Adrian Stankowski opened the conversation by asking about the number of migrants who had been pushed across to the Polish side. Paulina Matysiak pointed out the lack of consistent data.

“Germany reports significantly higher numbers than the Polish authorities. People are scared and don’t trust a government that is supposed to ensure their safety. There is a communication problem—we can all see that, regardless of which party we support—and I believe that’s the core issue here, because we’re not getting accurate data. It’s no surprise that people feel uneasy in such a situation,” the MP said.

Matysiak went a step further, suggesting that the lack of transparency is deliberate.

“The government’s information blockade is no accident. People are asking: why can’t we be given the actual numbers?” she added.

The conversation also touched on the upcoming inauguration of President Karol Nawrocki, scheduled for August 6. When asked whether the ceremony would take place in a dignified manner, Paulina Matysiak expressed hope for a peaceful event.

“I hope everything proceeds calmly and properly, that the National Assembly won’t be disrupted on August 6. It also seems obvious to me that some members of the Civic Platform (PO) will continue spinning stories that [Karol Nawrocki] shouldn’t become president, and they will keep spreading disinformation,” the MP said.

In the context of the opposition’s actions following the second round of the presidential election, Adrian Stankowski asked whether “Poles deserve an apology.”

“That’s setting the bar very high—expecting Roman Giertych to apologize for his antics and everything he’s been doing over the past few weeks,” she commented. When pressed by the journalist on whether such an apology should happen, she replied:

“Yes. But it won’t happen. The real question is why some PO politicians have been making such statements since the beginning of last month. In my opinion, there are two goals: to undermine President Karol Nawrocki’s authority, and to deflect attention from their defeat in the election.”

The interview concluded with a question about the potential government reshuffle.

“I think many people will be disappointed by the changes in the government,” she summarized.
