Hateful videos produced as part of the campaign by the “Your Voice Matters” Foundation continue to circulate online, with thousands more złoty being spent on their promotion. “The arrogance of Civic Platform (PO) knows no bounds. After the major scandal in the first round, nothing has changed before the second. The hateful videos are still being spread under the guise of encouraging voter turnout, but in reality, they are engaging in political agitation,” said Michał Woś, MP from Law and Justice (PiS), during a press conference.
Last week, the NASK Disinformation Analysis Center issued a statement indicating that political ads on Facebook in Poland—promoting Rafał Trzaskowski and attacking Karol Nawrocki and Sławomir Mentzen—were likely funded from abroad. The institution noted that accounts involved in the campaign had spent more on political content over the past seven days than any official electoral committee, with these efforts appearing to support one candidate while discrediting others. The Internal Security Agency (ABW) is investigating the matter. That same day, according to NASK’s statement, the ads were blocked by Meta, the company that owns Facebook.
On Tuesday, during a session of the parliamentary digitalization committee, this entire “narrative” was thoroughly debunked, and NASK’s statement was labeled a lie.
Borowiak: Can Poles Feel Safe?
During a Sejm session, PiS MP Joanna Borowiak raised the issue of alleged illegal campaign financing.
“Recently, the public has been alarmed by reports of foreign interference in the Polish presidential elections through illegal campaign financing for KO candidate Rafał Trzaskowski. According to media reports, the ads promoting this candidate and attacking others were linked to an employee and volunteers of the Action Democracy Foundation. One of the people involved was, just weeks ago, an assistant to a KO MP. The ads were posted by Facebook profiles whose administrators are unknown and registered addresses in Poland simply do not exist,” Borowiak stated.
She pointed out concerns about how NASK, an institution tasked with safeguarding information security, communicated these events.
“This communication obscured the core of what could be described as the biggest scandal in the history of democratic elections in Poland,” said the MP.
“Are those in power using NASK as a tool in ongoing political battles? Can Poles feel secure if election security is being managed by those who confuse public trust with sheer propaganda? Why were MPs conducting a parliamentary inspection misled about the alleged suspension of hateful content on Facebook? NASK’s statement was so vague that Meta itself had to refute its key claims,” she asked.
Cieszyński: Future Warnings Will Be Worthless
Paweł Olszewski, Deputy Minister of Digital Affairs, responded on behalf of the government, insisting that “as a state institute, NASK operates professionally and promptly informed ABW of suspected foreign involvement and external financing.”
“Everyone has been attacked. A Russian bot farm has been activated, targeting Rafał Trzaskowski. Ukrainian intelligence warned Poland that we would face a coordinated operation from Russia involving fake profiles, false advertisements, illegal financing, and that it would have an impact. You must choose: are you on the side of transparency or on the side of Kremlin-style disinformation?” Olszewski asked.
“Thank you for the performance, but this is a typical strategy—when things go wrong, blame foreign forces. Because of statements like yours, all future claims of interference from the East will be worthless. You are relativizing the issue and using it for your own political gain,” responded Janusz Cieszyński, former Minister of Digital Affairs.
Hateful Videos Still Circulating Online
The campaign by the “Your Voice Matters” Foundation was again addressed by PiS MPs during a press conference.
“The arrogance of Civic Platform knows no bounds. After the first-round scandal, nothing has changed. Hateful videos are still spreading online, pretending to encourage voter turnout while actually engaging in political propaganda. If we see videos smearing Karol Nawrocki and praising Rafał Trzaskowski, it’s clear who benefits. This is illegal campaign financing using vast amounts from state-owned enterprises and various side-channel donors. It’s a serious offense that strikes at the foundations of a democratic state governed by the rule of law,” said MP Michał Woś.
Internet users have pointed out that these hateful videos are still circulating.
“Just yesterday, the ‘Your Voice Matters’ Foundation spent between 6,400 and 7,390 złotych on its hateful political ads via Meta Ads, according to estimates from the Ad Library. That’s significantly more than the official campaign teams of Karol Nawrocki or Rafał Trzaskowski. The Foundation continues to launch new ad campaigns costing thousands of złotych. There are already 10 ad creatives in Meta Ads and 22 in Google Ads,” said Piotr Okulski from the Observatory for Economic Development and Democracy.
