“He can post on X; I’m responsible for the state.” Hołownia responds to Giertych’s proposals

“Roman Giertych is a very creative lawyer who comes up with all sorts of ideas. He also seems unwilling to accept, internally and in spirit, the outcome of the election. He can write on Twitter if he likes—I am the one responsible for the state,” said Speaker of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia, commenting on the latest proposals by Civic Coalition MP Roman Giertych.

Giertych questions a one-month recess of the National Assembly

For several days now, the “Silni Razem” (Strong Together) movement has been circulating claims about “rigged presidential elections.” Simultaneously, a campaign was launched encouraging mass submission of election protests to the Supreme Court.

The First President of the Supreme Court, Małgorzata Manowska, admitted yesterday that the majority of these protests are so-called “Giertych templates. There are several hundred individual protests. Over 90 percent are copied submissions based on a template made available by Civic Platform MP Roman Giertych,” she said.

In response, Giertych, in his characteristic manner, reacted on social media with a veiled threat. He announced his intention to file a complaint against President Manowska and other individuals from the so-called Extraordinary Review Chamber.

“In all 50,000 election protests submitted using my template, we requested their referral to the Labour and Social Insurance Chamber. Her statement suggests that our protests were essentially hijacked by neo-judges,”
Giertych wrote.

He also asked legal experts whether it would be possible to hold a vote in the National Assembly on introducing a recess—potentially for one month—which could prevent Karol Nawrocki from assuming the presidency.

Hołownia: “Giertych can post on X; I’m responsible for the state”

Speaker of the Sejm and Poland 2050 leader Szymon Hołownia addressed Giertych’s actions today.

“Yes, and then what might happen? If Roman Giertych continues to insist on making decisions—because it seems he wants to decide on behalf of the National Assembly and many other state institutions—we could end up with another election. And you know what the outcome of that might be? Karol Nawrocki winning in the first round with 70 percent of the vote. Because the public outrage at the idea that someone tried to rig the election would be overwhelming—much stronger than what we are seeing today,”
Hołownia stated.

He emphasized that “there are certain sanctities in a state, and one of them is the Constitution and the voice of the people.”

“Roman Giertych is undoubtedly a creative lawyer who keeps inventing new concepts. But he does not seem willing to accept the election result as it stands. Still, if he manages to gather 281 members of the National Assembly to support a recess, let him demonstrate it,”
he continued.

Referring again to Giertych, Hołownia reiterated: “He can write on X—I’m the one responsible for the state. I express my criticism of such proposals with a smile.”

Hołownia also stated that, in his view, “as of today, nothing has changed to make his words from two weeks ago any less relevant.”

“If the Supreme Court confirms the validity of these elections, I will convene the National Assembly on August 6 and enable Karol Nawrocki, the elected president, to take the oath of office. Unless something happens within the Court that, based on facts, calculations, and concrete evidence, leads to a different conclusion—namely, that the election must be annulled,”
he concluded.
