“I ask, where is the responsibility? Why were emotions stirred up like this? Why did this happen, who did it and for what purpose, and how do they now plan to explain it to the public?” stated Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz, Minister of Funds and Regional Policy in Donald Tusk’s government, referring to the theories spread by Silni Razem (Strong Together) regarding the alleged rigging of the presidential elections.
Theories about “rigged elections”
In this year’s presidential election, PiS-backed candidate Karol Nawrocki won with 50.89% of the vote. KO candidate Rafał Trzaskowski received 49.11% support. Immediately after Nawrocki’s victory, groups associated with the December 13 Coalition began promoting claims of alleged “fraud.”
At the same time, a coordinated campaign was launched to file mass electoral protests with the Supreme Court, spearheaded by KO MP Roman Giertych and his online supporters. Ultimately, further investigations by state authorities-first a Supreme Court ruling, then actions taken by the Prosecutor’s Office-dispelled these allegations once and for all.
Tusk’s minister asks: “Why were emotions stirred up like this?”
Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz (from Polska 2050), Minister of Funds and Regional Policy in Donald Tusk’s government, spoke today about the actions taken by the Silni Razem movement. “When even the Prosecutor’s Office, which reports to the Minister of Justice, concluded that the irregularities didn’t exceed three thousand votes, while the difference between candidates was 370,000. So I ask, where is the responsibility? Why were emotions stirred up like this? Why did this happen, who did it and for what purpose, and how do they now plan to explain it to the public?” she emphasized.
She pointed out that “there’s no need for her to name names, because all of this happened in the public space-tweets, statements, plain and simple.”
During the conversation, a question was raised about who was stirring up emotions.
“MP Giertych took the lead, he belongs to a specific party, but at this point I’ll say this: I really just want the coalition to move forward with a well-functioning government […] so I won’t start listing names here,” declared Pełczyńska-Nałęcz.
