The prosecutor’s office in Koszalin is seeking to drop the investigation against a 34-year-old suspected of murder and two attempted murders, said prosecutor Ewa Dziadczyk. The perpetrator is to be placed in a psychiatric facility, as experts have deemed him insane.
The tragic events took place in the early morning of December 26, 2024, in Darłowo (West Pomeranian Voivodeship). At the time, the man—then 33 years old—went to his grandmother’s apartment with the intention, as he admitted during the investigation, of killing her. He struck her on the head, kicked her, and, convinced she was dead, moved on to the home of his ex-girlfriend and her partner, whom he also intended to kill. His attempt was thwarted by the woman’s 73-year-old grandfather—who was himself killed by blows from a mallet delivered by the 33-year-old. The man’s grandmother was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
During the investigation, the suspect admitted to the acts he was accused of. According to prosecutor Dziadczyk, he claimed he was “cleansing the city of bad people.” For his actions, he faced up to 10 years in prison.
Prosecutors Seek Case Dismissal
The prosecution now wants to drop the case against the 34-year-old. The Sławno District Prosecutor’s Office has submitted a motion to the Koszalin District Court to discontinue the proceedings.
At the same time, investigators have requested that the man be subjected to a preventive measure—placement in a psychiatric facility “with an increased level of security.”
“In the course of the proceedings, experts determined that the suspect had completely lost the ability to recognize the significance of his actions or to control his conduct. He is insane,” said prosecutor Dziadczyk.
