Politicians from the Civic Platform continue to accuse the previous government of opening the border to goods from Ukraine. The latest accusations came following a post by Waldemar Buda, who took part in Thursday’s farmers’ protest in Brussels. However, it was Buda himself who issued the regulation that closed the import of goods from Poland’s eastern neighbour. These attacks may ultimately be resolved in court.
On Thursday, a protest was held in Brussels by farmers opposing, among other things, cuts to the EU budget for the Common Agricultural Policy. One of the participants in the demonstration was Waldemar Buda, a Member of the European Parliament from the Law and Justice party (PiS). His show of solidarity with the protestors did not sit well with representatives of the ruling coalition. Government spokesperson and Minister for EU Affairs, Adam Szłapka, was one of the first to attack, accusing PiS politicians of “fully opening trade with Ukraine.”
“They Have No Shame”
The former Minister of Technology and Development responded by presenting the regulation he had signed, which contradicted the claims made by the Civic Platform politician. However, it seems that Szłapka’s party colleagues are unfazed and continue to level accusations. On Friday, Buda was attacked on X by Jan Grabiec, Head of the Prime Minister’s Office under Donald Tusk.
“This guy, as a minister in the PiS government, was responsible for fully opening the Polish market to goods from Ukraine. They have no shame,” Grabiec wrote, referring to a video posted by the PiS MEP from Thursday’s protest.
“See You in Court”
The opposition politician once again posted a scan of the regulation as evidence of the false accusations. This time, however, he took it a step further and indicated that he intends to pursue legal action.
“Mistakes like this are costly! Iwas the one who issued the regulation that completely closed imports from Ukraine! See you in court!” Buda wrote.
