Maltese services are searching for a 13-year-old girl from Poland who was swept away by rough seas on Monday evening. The rescue operation is being hampered by poor weather conditions.

Search efforts are under way in Malta for the 13-year-old Polish girl who was swept away by rough seas on Monday evening. Local services reported that they resumed the search on Tuesday morning after it had been suspended overnight due to adverse weather conditions.

As reported by the Times of Malta, the girl’s brother also fell into the sea but was rescued by their father, who sustained injuries.

According to the newspaper, Polish tourists – a father with two children staying at a hotel in the town of Cirkewwa – went down to the shore, likely to take photos. The boy and the girl were swept away by the waves. A search for the girl was launched immediately. The rescue mission was suspended overnight.

Maltese services said that extreme weather conditions, including rough seas and strong winds, are hindering the operation, which is being carried out using helicopters, boats and drones.
