The Silesian Philharmonic’s Chamber Hall hosted a press conference on November 21, 2023, marking the culmination of the first stage of the 11th International Grzegorz Fitelberg Conductors’ Competition.

In attendance were Adam Wesołowski, Director of the Silesian Philharmonic and the competition, and Patrick Fourniller, Conductor and Jury Chairman. Fourniller commended the participants for their exceptional skills, with 12 individuals progressing to the next round.
Out of 256 global applicants representing 43 countries, the jury selected the top 50 through video submissions. The first stage featured 44 conductors, accompanied by the Silesian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra.
The jury, comprising renowned figures like Lawrence Foster and Patrick Fournillier, praised the high caliber of the competition. The next round will unfold until November 24, leading to two final concerts on November 25 and 27 in Katowice and Warsaw, respectively.
The coveted awards include the Golden Baton and a €20,000 prize for the winner, followed by the Silver Baton (€10,000) and the Bronze Baton (€6,000). Additional honors and opportunities await the laureates, including the chance to conduct both national and international orchestras.
