Hołownia disappointed with the government he co-creates? “Tusk could have handled it differently”

“I believe that Donald Tusk could have handled the issue of teamwork within the coalition somewhat differently, and he did not. Secondly, today — a year and a half before the elections, after two and a half years in office — we urgently need to take a hard look at what has not yet been delivered and make sure it gets done. The stakes of the elections that are approaching are quite significant,” said former Speaker of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia, on TV Republika.

Szymon Hołownia, the former Speaker of the Sejm, appeared on TV Republika this morning. At the very beginning of the program, during the “short questions” segment, he answered affirmatively when asked whether he no longer wanted to take part in Donald Tusk’s conflict with Jarosław Kaczyński.

Asked whether he had been disappointed by Donald Tusk and the government he co-creates, Hołownia replied that this disappointment stemmed, at least in part, from the fact that “people are no longer the most important thing for this government. Instead, the goal has become a tribal war with PiS and pursuing, catching, and politically taking revenge on Law and Justice. To be honest, I see a problem on both sides.”

“PiS has exactly the same plan. The difference is that they are not the ones governing. I know they are not in power, but they are responsible for a significant part of the political narrative in this country, because, as we know, the country is divided. And when, in private conversations, I hear very senior politicians from that side of the opposition saying: ‘Listen, we have to do something, because in a few months or years there could be some kind of civil war here. We could also be manipulated by provocateurs.’ Then I say: maybe we should start acting differently on both sides,” the Poland 2050 politician said.

“Tusk could have handled it differently”

In Hołownia’s view, the government he co-creates should have delivered “far more of its promises.”

“Governing is not only about securing what is happening today and somehow staying afloat in the boat of power. It is about actually steering that boat somewhere,” he added.

Asked whether he had expected something different from Donald Tusk, Hołownia responded:

“I am not obsessed with Donald Tusk, and his is not the name I wake up with in the morning or fall asleep thinking about. However, I believe that Donald Tusk could have handled the issue of teamwork within the coalition somewhat differently, and he did not. Quite significantly so. That is the first thing. The second is that today — a year and a half before the elections, after two and a half years in office — we urgently need to take a hard look at what has not yet been delivered and make sure it gets done. Because the stakes of the elections that are coming soon are quite significant.”
