Poland’s Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski posted on X, drawing widespread attention after he attacked demonstrators taking part in today’s “No to SAFE” rally outside the Presidential Palace.
“The Smolensk assassination plot—back again. Curious how many agents there are and how many fools,” he wrote. The politician soon received a forceful response.
“No to SAFE” Demonstration
At noon today, a “No to SAFE” demonstration took place in front of the Presidential Palace, organized by the Gazeta Polska Clubs. Participants protested against the law implementing the EU financial instrument SAFE and appealed to the president to veto it.
Slogans appeared on banners criticizing the loan and the rules for granting it, including:
- “SAFE is not safe”
- “SAFE is German bondage”
- “No to SAFE, yes to Poland”
- “SAFE means Germanization of profits and Polonization of losses”
Commentators’ reactions
Commentators did not hold back in their criticism of his post. Below are selected posts:
- “And this was written by the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Bravo, Minister. This is tragic.”
- “Shame! For a government representative to talk about Poles like that.”
- “The greatest number of agents are in your government, Minister.”
- “Is it appropriate for a minister to call Poles ‘fools’? I hope that after these words people will see who they’re dealing with, how the government treats people, and what it thinks of Polish citizens who voted for them.”
- “Above all, these are Poles—not fools!”
- “So you trust the Russians so much that you believe everything about Smolensk has been explained? Please ask journalist Jurasz—on the day of the disaster, Belarusians told him they themselves didn’t know whether it was an assassination or not. There didn’t have to be some grand plot to bring about an accident.”
