Hungarians head to the polls to decide their future; Ziobro says they’ve seen Poland’s outcome after power shift

Parliamentary elections will be held in Hungary on Sunday. Former Minister of Justice Zbigniew Ziobro, who is currently in Budapest, said he believes that “reason and love for the country, rather than for a European illusion,” will prevail. He added that Hungarians already know how a change of power turned out for Poles.

“I believe that Hungarians, who already know how the change of power in Poland to the pro-EU Donald Tusk ended, and how quickly Poles felt ‘EU realities’ in their own pockets, will not be fooled by this,” Ziobro said, referring to the elections in Hungary. He added that he believes that in Hungary “reason and love for one’s own country will prevail, rather than for a European illusion.”

Ziobro assessed that the stakes of the Hungarian elections are “higher than ever before” in the history of the European Union. According to the PiS politician, “if power is taken over by the pro-EU Péter Magyar (leader of the opposition Tisza party), Brussels will have a clear path to transforming the EU into a single centralized state, as desired by left-liberal elites.”

“Viktor Orbán has announced that if he wins the election, he will block all these plans, which are also dangerous for Poles,”

he added.

As he emphasized, this is why some EU countries are engaging in actions on behalf of “Brussels’ favorite, Magyar.” As he stated, Brussels “knows perfectly well” that the Hungarian prime minister’s veto is the only obstacle standing in the EU’s way.

“That is why they fear him so much and attack him so fiercely, accusing him of supporting the criminal Vladimir Putin. But Orbán is simply protecting Hungary’s interests,”

he said.

He argued that if Russia were to cut off energy supplies to Hungary, “its economy would turn into a dark and cold desert for several years,” and rebuilding it would take about five years and cost “tens of billions of euros.”

“Orbán believes that Hungary has no alternative, which is why he considers maintaining relations with Russia to be a matter of national interest in such a situation,”

he added.

Referring to Tuesday’s visit of U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance to Budapest, Ziobro assessed that the American administration appreciates Orbán’s consistency “in defending traditional values, opposing the influx of immigrants, and resisting the gradual dismantling of nation-states in Europe.”

Parliamentary elections in Hungary will take place on Sunday.
