Iga Swiatek has secured her spot in the semi-finals of the French Open after a victorious match against Coco Gauff. The Polish player triumphed over Gauff with a score of 6-4, 6-2 in the quarter-finals. Swiatek’s next challenge will be facing Beatriz Haddad Maia, who emerged victorious against Ons Jabeur.
The initial stages of the match showcased a closely contested battle between the players. Swiatek seemed to have the upper hand after breaking Gauff’s serve to take a 3-1 lead. However, she lost her serve shortly after, allowing her opponent to claim the next two games.
The set remained fiercely competitive until the tenth game when Swiatek broke Gauff once again, not conceding a single point and ultimately winning the set 6-4.
Anticipation for a closely fought second set was prevalent, but an unfortunate incident occurred in the third game when Gauff struck the ball forcefully directly at Swiatek. Surprisingly, the incident did not unsettle the Polish player. On the contrary, it fueled her momentum, leading to a break point at 4-2 and denying her rival any game victories. Swiatek displayed moments of risky yet effective play, ultimately clinching the set 6-2 and sealing the victory in the entire match.
In the upcoming semi-finals of the French Open, Swiatek will face off against Brazilian player Beatriz Haddad Maia, ranked 14th. Haddad Maia secured her place in the semis with a hard-fought win over Ons Jabeur, triumphing 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1.
