Iga Świątek Secures Spot in Beijing’s 3rd Round, Sets Up Clash with Magda Linette

Iga Świątek has advanced to the third round of the WTA tournament on the hard courts of Beijing. The Polish tennis player, holding the second seed, overcame France’s Varvara Gracheva with a convincing 6-4, 6-1 victory. In her upcoming match, Świątek is slated to go head-to-head with her compatriot, Magda Linette, with the match scheduled for Wednesday.

Poland’s player asserted her dominance from the outset against Gracheva, who is ranked 47th. Świątek quickly seized control, securing two breaks of her opponent’s serve, and establishing a commanding 4-1 lead. Despite a brief lapse in concentration, she clinched the first set 6-4 after 41 minutes of intense competition.

The second set saw Świątek break Gracheva’s serve at the outset, gaining a 1-0 lead. However, as rain began to fall in Beijing, the match was temporarily suspended. After a slightly over an hour delay, the players returned to the court. Upon resumption, the Polish player left little room for her opponent to make a comeback, surrendering only one game and ultimately claiming the set 6-1.

In the third round, Świątek will face Magda Linette, who secured her place with a victory over Jennifer Brady on Monday. Brady retired from the match when Linette was leading 3-1 in the first set.
