Celebrating her 23rd birthday in style, Iga Świątek secured a commanding victory over Czech player Marie Bouzková, winning 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the fourth round of the French Open. The world number one from Poland will next face Anastasia Potapova as she pursues another Grand Slam title.
The match against Bouzková, ranked 42nd in the WTA, began with the Czech serving. Bouzková aimed to avoid long rallies but struggled with her serve, leading to a double fault and an early break for Świątek. Świątek displayed precision and minimized errors, extending her lead with aces to 3-1 and 4-2. Bouzková’s serving issues continued, resulting in another double fault and a break, putting Świątek up 5-2. Although Bouzková broke Świątek’s serve once, Świątek clinched the first set 6-4.
In the second set, Świątek’s dominance grew as she won the opening game with a backhand down the line and held serve to make it 2-0. Despite a determined effort from Bouzková in a lengthy third game, Świątek secured another break to lead 3-0. She continued her momentum, commanding the fourth game to extend her lead to 4-0. Bouzková won only two more games before Świątek closed out the set and the match with a 6-2 victory.
