Iga Swiatek will not play in Adelaide 2 tournament. The Pole made such a decision after the United Cup match against the US national team. The reason is a right shoulder injury.
The United Cup match was a preparation stage for the first Grand Slam of the season, the Australian Open. Iga Swiatek showed that she is already ready for the season, which she proved with impressive wins against, among others, Belinda Bencic, and Julia Putinceva. The Pole lost only once, at the very end against Jessica Pegula.
The next stage of preparation for the Melbourne clash was to be the Adelaide tournament. A year ago, the 21-year-old reached the semi-finals, losing to eventual winner Ashleigh Barty. This time, however, she will not perform due to a right shoulder injury.
“Iga Swiatek has withdrawn from Adelaide 2 due to a right shoulder injury. No.4 seed Caroline Garcia take Swiatek’s top line in the draw and the next player to be seeded, Danielle Collins, moves into Garcia’s vacated spot,” WTA Insider informed on Twitter.
World No.1 decided to focus on the Australian Open, which starts on January 16 and prepare for this tournament.
