An official investigation has been launched into the illegal financing of Rafał Trzaskowski’s presidential campaign, according to Telewizja Republika. The probe focuses on promotional materials disseminated via social media, for which hundreds of thousands of złoty were reportedly spent.
On June 9, 2025, a prosecutor from the Kraków District Prosecutor’s Office, delegated to the Małopolska Regional Branch of the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Public Prosecutor’s Office, issued a decision to initiate an investigation into a suspected offense under Article 299 §1 of the Polish Penal Code.
This article addresses the crime of money laundering. It states:
“Whoever accepts, possesses, uses, transfers, exports abroad, conceals, converts, or facilitates the transfer or conversion of money, financial instruments, securities, foreign exchange, property rights, or any other assets derived from criminal activity, or undertakes actions that may obstruct the identification of their illicit origin, location, detection, seizure, or forfeiture, shall be subject to imprisonment from six months to eight years.”
The official letter from the prosecutor’s office, as revealed by Telewizja Republika, states:
“An investigation has been initiated into the use of funds derived from criminal activity, which were employed in the creation and dissemination of promotional spots via Facebook, in connection with the presidential election campaign in Poland. The basis for the proceedings is Article 299 §1 of the Penal Code, launched upon a report and materials provided by the Internal Security Agency (ABW).”
The investigation aims to establish all circumstances surrounding the financing of political ads—especially campaign videos—on Facebook, including those published via the profiles “Wiesz Jak Nie Jest” and “Stół Dorosłych” during the 2025 presidential campaign. Authorities are seeking to identify those responsible and trace the origin of the funding.
The “Wiesz Jak Nie Jest” profile, operated through the site wieszjakniejest.pl, was launched on March 28, 2025, and is said to have spent several hundred thousand złoty on an online political campaign. The majority of its content targeted Trzaskowski’s chief opponents, Karol Nawrocki and Sławomir Mentzen.
Another profile, “Stół Dorosłych” (lit. “The Adults’ Table”), associated with the domain stoldoroslych.pl, spent approximately 80,000 zł on social media promotions. Unlike the previous page, this one focused on positive messaging and praise for Rafał Trzaskowski.
Both domains were registered by 1API GmbH, a German company. This entity has previously been mentioned in media reports concerning the “Doppelganger” disinformation campaign—an operation attributed to Russia’s Ministry of Defense.
