“Is this still Poland?” Only German and EU flags displayed at polling station in Racibórz

A considerable scandal broke out at one of the polling stations in Racibórz (Silesian Voivodeship). At the station located in Primary School No. 18, the German flag, the European Union flag, and the flag of Racibórz were displayed—while the Polish flag was conspicuously missing. The head of the commission called the police—but not to address the missing national flag. Instead, the call was made against the person who pointed out the issue.

A photo of the polling station was shared on Twitter by Tomasz Sakiewicz. “No Polish flag. Don’t rush it—Poles are still voting…” he commented.

The photo clearly shows it is the polling station at Primary School No. 18 in Racibórz.

Tomasz Ognisty from the NSZZ Individual Farmers Union “Solidarność” was present at the scene. He pointed out that the absence of the national flag was unacceptable and brought a white-and-red Polish flag to the site. The response from the Election Commission? Its chair called the police on Mr. Ognisty, claiming he was “causing a disturbance.”

“We’re waiting for the police to arrive. We’ll keep reporting what happens next. I just can’t believe this is really happening. Is this still Poland?” – asked Tomasz Ognisty.

Later, MP Michał Woś arrived at the scene, conducted an official parliamentary intervention, and placed the Polish flag in the appropriate spot. “As part of the intervention, we’ll help Racibórz’s local authorities and make sure the polling station is properly set up,” Woś stated.

“They showed it on TV—that there’s a German flag but no Polish one,” a woman can be heard saying in the background. “And now everything’s fine!” Woś said as he put up the Polish flag. Was a parliamentary intervention really necessary for something so basic? Couldn’t this have been resolved right away?
