Juventus Football Club announced the departure of Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny on Wednesday, marking the end of his seven-year tenure with the team. The club stated that the mutual agreement to part ways was reached amicably.
Szczęsny, aged 34, leaves behind a significant legacy at Juventus, having appeared in 252 matches across all competitions, including 200 Serie A games. His impressive stats include 100 clean sheets and nine saved penalties, boasting an overall save rate of 73% — the highest in Serie A since his arrival in Turin.
The Polish international, affectionately known by fans as “Tek,” has been an instrumental part of Juventus’s recent successes, contributing to eight major trophies during his time with the club. These accolades include three Serie A titles (2018, 2019, 2020), three Coppa Italia victories, and two Supercoppa Italiana wins.
Prior to joining Juventus, Szczęsny honed his skills at Arsenal in London, with loan spells at Brentford and Roma. He started his career in his home country, playing in the youth ranks at Agrykola and Legia Warsaw.
Juventus paid tribute to Szczęsny with a heartfelt message on their website, accompanied by numerous photographs celebrating his contributions: “Wojciech Szczęsny will always be remembered as a dedicated player and a man who wore our jersey with pride and professionalism. We thank you, ‘Tek,’ for everything and wish you all the best in the future!”
Szczęsny, who has earned 84 caps for the Polish national team to date, is the son of Maciej Szczęsny, also a respected goalkeeper and former national team player. As Juventus prepares for the upcoming season with striker Arkadiusz Milik leading the line, they reflect on a robust third-place finish in last season’s Serie A under Szczęsny’s guard.
