Kacper Woryna and Grzegorz Zengota sealed their place in the Speedway European Championship 2023 at an epic SEC Challenge at Hungarian track Nagyhalasz on Sunday afternoon

Kacper Woryna of Włókniarz Częstochowa and Grzegorz Zengota from Fogo Unia Leszno have triumphed in the Hungarian town of Nagyhalasz, securing their spots in this year’s Speedway European Championship (SEC) cycle. The SEC Challenge tournament was claimed by French rider Dimitri Berge, who displayed exceptional skill and determination on the track.

Sixteen speedway riders battled for five coveted positions in the SEC 2023 cycle during the tournament in Hungary. Alongside Woryna and Zengota, Szymon Woźniak also fought for the right to compete. However, the Stal Gorzów rider fell short in the additional heats, ultimately finishing in seventh place.

Berge showcased his remarkable form throughout the event, scoring a perfect 12 points from four races, securing his qualification for the Speedway European Championship. In his final performance, he finished in third place. The battle for the remaining qualification spots intensified until the last race. After 20 heats, Woryna, Czech rider Jan Kvech, and Zengota secured their passes to the European Championship with 10 points each.

Another five participants earned nine points, leading the event organizers to conduct a mini-tournament of additional races to determine the fifth qualifier for the SEC cycle. The deciding race was won by Danish rider Andreas Lyager. The best speedway riders from last year’s edition, including Leon Madsen, Janusz Kołodziej, Mikkel Michelsen, Patryk Dudek, and Dominik Kubera, have already secured their spots in the European Championship.

The SEC promoter will soon announce five riders who will receive permanent wild cards for the series. The individual Speedway European Championship will commence in Częstochowa on June 17, followed by tournaments in Guestrow, Germany (August 5), Bydgoszcz (September 9), and Pardubice (September 22).
