Kaczyński mocked the Civic Platform’s convention: “They’re the first ones, really, congratulations.”

“Two parties – discreet ones – have merged with another – not so discreet – and they even decided on a new name… the same one as before,” said Law and Justice (PiS) leader Jarosław Kaczyński, referring to the Civic Platform’s Saturday convention.

On Saturday, during the National Convention of the Civic Platform (PO), the party’s leader Donald Tusk announced the merger of Civic Platform, Polish Initiative, and Modern into a single political party. The new entity will bear the name… Civic Coalition.

PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński commented on the “change” during his party’s convention in Katowice. He stated that the work of his party’s representatives would bring positive results in two years-or sooner. “I was particularly convinced by those who today organized another meeting in Warsaw. An important one, you might say. Well, one party, which undoubtedly exists—it’s even large, strong, sometimes enjoys high poll numbers, though strangely tied to their various ventures, that’s just a suggestion, I’m not judging—and this party has now united with two others, which also exist, but discreetly,” he said.

“Well, discretion is truly a great virtue, so there’s nothing to laugh about,” he added.

Kaczyński continued, “So, these two parties – discreet ones – have joined with the one that is not discreet, and they’ve also decided on a new name… the same one as before.”

“I’ve been interested in politics since a very young age, since childhood – I can honestly say, since de Gaulle’s coup d’état in 1958, so for the vast majority sitting here, that was long before they were born. Well, something like this has never happened before. They’re the first ones, really, so congratulations,” he declared.

“Although at some point, I think they may have lost faith in this great achievement. Apparently, tomorrow there will be some panels,” he said.

Speaking more seriously, he added, “The opponent, though sometimes—as I just said, and you laughed—downright comical in their undertakings, still exists and continues to think in various ways, without any moral restraints in any matter, about how to hold on to power, because they know that losing power would truly be a very serious misfortune for them.”
