During a press conference in Żuromin, Karol Nawrocki, a candidate for the President of Poland, presented his legislative proposals and addressed issues related to energy, unemployment, and national security. He argued that current energy prices are hindering investment development and that renewable energy sources alone cannot fill Poland’s energy mix.
Energy and Investments: “We Cannot Develop with These Electricity Prices”
Karol Nawrocki, a civic candidate for the Polish presidency, argued in Żuromin that the development of local communities—including the Żuromin county—is closely tied to energy costs. In his view, current electricity prices are effectively deterring investors and exacerbating unemployment.
Poles cannot afford to pay such high prices for electricity. […] Investments need low energy prices. The current prices are blocking numerous investments across Poland.
Nawrocki emphasized that he has already submitted three legislative proposals, one of which aims to reduce VAT on electricity to 8%. He believes this is a necessary step to stimulate the economy and combat unemployment, which currently exceeds 13% in Żuromin county. Unfortunately, the current ruling coalition, “December 13 Coalition,” is indifferent to the problems of ordinary Poles and entrepreneurs, focusing instead on persecuting the opposition.
Nuclear, Coal, and Social Consensus
Nawrocki also devoted significant attention to the issue of the energy mix. He advocated for the development of nuclear energy and domestic coal mining, while noting that renewable energy sources, though necessary, should not dominate without social reflection.
We will not develop if we rely solely on green energy. It is not possible for wind turbines or photovoltaics to fill Poland’s energy mix.
He pointed out conflicts over the location of wind farms and stressed that investments must be socially accepted.
A wind turbine cannot stand in front of a person. A wind turbine cannot stand in front of a Polish farm. A wind turbine cannot stand in front of a memorial site.
Borders and Security
The candidate also addressed national security issues, emphasizing the need for further development of border infrastructure. He criticized Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s recent statements, questioning his intentions. Recall that during a press conference on Friday, Tusk declared the protection of borders.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk should first apologize to the Polish Border Guard and spokesperson Marta Michalska for everything that happened before October 15, 2023. Only then could we believe that his concern for security is not just an element of the election campaign.
Nawrocki referred to the PR stunts of PO politicians during the Belarusian attack on the Polish border. At that time, Donald Tusk, not yet prime minister, attacked Border Guard officers and criticized PiS, which had decided to build a barrier on the border.
Karol Nawrocki’s speech in Żuromin was strongly interventionist. It focused on local problems but was set in a national context—from energy and investments to border security. The candidate clearly emphasizes the issues of living costs and the real impact of state decisions on the daily lives of residents in smaller towns.
Unfortunately, the current government is primarily focused on persecuting the opposition.
