Mayor Marcin Krupa and the President of the Polish Basketball Association, Radosław Piesiewicz, have agreed that Katowice will host the EuroBasket tournament in 2025. The two dignitaries signed a letter of intent to officially mark the arrangement. Katowice has had a long history of organizing major sporting events.

EuroBasket 2025, the FIBA European Basketball Championships, is set to take place across four countries – Poland, Finland, Cyprus, and Latvia. The tournament will kick off in August/September 2025, with 24 teams organized into four groups. Latvia will be the host of the final section of the competition, while all games involving the Polish national team will be played in Poland.

“I am glad that Katowice will be the host city of EuroBasket 2025. It has already hosted many basketball events of the highest level in the past,”

Radosław Piesiewicz, President of the Polish Basketball Association and the Polish Basketball League, said.

The Polish national basketball team has already qualified for EuroBasket 2025 due to its hosting role. However, it has still gone through the prequalification process, which it successfully completed by winning its group. The overall qualification process for the tournament will be finished in February 2025.
