“Minister Marcin Kierwiński, if in your opinion we are ‘cynical impostors’ because we defend the borders – then who are you, since these ‘impostors’ have done more than your entire government?” – wrote Robert Bąkiewicz on social media, responding to yesterday’s post by the newly reappointed head of the MSWiA (Ministry of the Interior and Administration).
Yesterday, during a ceremony at the Presidential Palace, the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, officially announced changes in the composition of the Council of Ministers.
The newly reconstructed cabinet was presented on Wednesday by Prime Minister Donald Tusk. The position of Minister of the Interior and Administration was given to Marcin Kierwiński, who replaced Tomasz Siemoniak. Kierwiński was the first interior minister in Donald Tusk’s government, appointed in 2023. He stepped down in May 2024 when he ran in the European Parliament elections.
Later, in September 2024, Kierwiński became the Minister for Post-Flood Reconstruction, thus resigning from his mandate as an MEP.
Kierwiński vs. border defenders
Now, he has been entrusted with a new task – one that, as usual in cooperation with Tusk, the Prime Minister places great importance on. Interestingly, in his very first statement in the new role, Kierwiński revealed that his goal would be to “restore order” with the Border Defense Movement.
“I thank the Prime Minister for his trust. I will not betray the trust of those who want an apolitical, effective police force, safe communities, and borders free of illegal migrants and cynical impostors. There will be no step back. We move forward. Security, order, and the state,” his post read.
Bąkiewicz: “Then who are you?”
Robert Bąkiewicz, the initiator of the Border Defense Movement, responded to Kierwiński’s statement.
“Minister Marcin Kierwiński, if in your opinion we are ‘cynical impostors’ because we defend the borders – then who are you, since these ‘impostors’ have done more than your entire government? We were the ones who forced you to reinstate border controls,” he wrote in response to the new MSWiA chief’s remarks.
He continued: “We were the ones who dismantled the German system of migrant smuggling into Poland. Your and Tusk’s statements are the best evidence of your incompetence, amateurism, and helplessness.”
“All you know how to do is harm Poland and attack your own citizens. And this is supposed to be an efficient state? Today, Poland truly needs defending – but from you,” he concluded.
