Polish People’s Party (PSL) leader Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and New Left (Nowa Lewica) co-chair Włodzimierz Czarzasty announced that they had reached a “compromise” on the draft bill concerning civil partnerships.
Will they avoid another disagreement?
During a meeting between the leaders of PSL and the Left, both sides reached an understanding regarding the civil partnerships bill. They emphasized that the talks were “constructive” and concluded with an agreement.
“It’s an important message that the parties forming the coalition have met at a point where this bill will make life easier for many people in Poland,” said Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, thanking Urszula Pasławska and Katarzyna Kotula for their contribution to reaching the compromise. The Deputy Prime Minister announced that the details of the bill would be revealed soon:
“We will provide more information next week at a joint press conference. Everything is on the right track,” he added.
Włodzimierz Czarzasty, in turn, emphasized that the cooperation between PSL and the Left was based on equality:
“This is an important issue. There are two draft bills – one by the Left and one by PSL. Thanks to Ms. Pasławska and Ms. Kotula, an equal agreement has been reached. No one was first, and no one was second,” said the New Left co-chair.
The politicians have not yet revealed whether the joint bill will be submitted to the Sejm as a single document:
“Since we’re here together, that already says a lot,” stated Kosiniak-Kamysz.
