KPO Scandal Rocks Poland – Pełczyńska-Nałęcz: “No Beheadings Ahead”

Among the 16 audited projects concerning support for diversification of the HoReCa industry from National Recovery Plan (KPO), irregularities were found, but “it was not 16 out of 16” – informed Minister of Funds Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz. She added that she is aware of the audit results, but entrepreneurs will learn them first. “There will be no beheadings,” she stated.

For many days now, Poles have been preoccupied with the issue of spending funds from the National Recovery Plan (KPO). As we have already reported on the Niezalezna.pl portal, money that was supposed to help rebuild the economy after the COVID-19 pandemic was spent on absurd projects such as a tanning bed in a pizzeria, yachts, accommodation in “kebab joints,” or expensive cars.

Pełczyńska-Nałęcz recently announced that this week the first 16 projects that “were considered questionable” would be audited. Asked about the results during a meeting with the residents of Lublin, she stated that irregularities were found among the 16 audited projects. – “They were, but it was not 16 out of 16,” she emphasized.

At the same time, the Minister admitted that she already knows the results of the audits but wants entrepreneurs to be the first to learn about them and have the opportunity to appeal. – Only then will I come out and inform the public – said Pełczyńska-Nałęcz.

She announced that in the coming weeks, several dozen more projects will be audited. “These are the most risky projects we have mapped,” she added.

She also stated that, along with auditing beneficiaries, operators are being checked for potential conflicts of interest.

The head of Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy (MFiPR) emphasized that people “must feel safe using public money,” which is why there will be no “beheadings after a one-day audit.”

If we want Polish entrepreneurs to want to use this support, which will then drive our development, they must feel that this is not some situation where right after receiving these funds, some overheated politicians will come along and start beheading them online and demolishing their image,” she stated.
