A decisive majority of Poles (62%) believe that these promises are not being kept. At the same time, one promise is being prioritized — a multifaceted fight against the Church. The removal of the image of St. Maximilian Kolbe from the Museum of the Second World War and the exclusion of religion as a subject from school curricula have caused deep social divisions and immediate reactions from Catholics, who have organized demonstrations.
Promises of tolerance and community were made, yet reality seems quite different. Is religion an integral part of our culture and tradition, or should we perhaps forget about it, purging public institutions and the minds of young citizens of religious values and symbols that once helped us survive the most challenging moments in history?
