On April 13, thousands of Poles gathered at Krakowskie Przedmieście in Warsaw to pay their respects to the late Maria Kaczyńska, laying yellow tulips – her favourite flowers – in her memory. The emotional tribute was a testament to the beloved former first lady’s legacy, as well as the strength of the Polish people in the face of tragedy.
Today marks the 13th annual commemoration of the late First Lady Maria Kaczyńska. At noon, crowds of Warsaw residents and visitors filled the sidewalks of Krakowskie Przedmieście in front of the Presidential Palace, each carrying a yellow tulip to lay in honour of Maria.
Tulips were Maria Kaczyńska’s favourite flowers. The First Lady’s love for them was so well-known that in 2008 Dutch breeder Jan Ligthart named a creamy yellow variety of tulips in honour of the First Lady.

On April 13, 2010, Poles across the nation gathered in Krakowskie Przedmieście, Warsaw to honour the memory of their beloved First Lady with yellow tulips. The date also marked the return of her body from Russia to Poland. The spontaneous tribute was a touching show of respect and admiration for the departed leader.
