“Lech Kaczyński rejected the belief that a contemporary and modern Poland should be detached from the past, tradition, patriotism, and patriotic heritage. At the same time, he rejected the notion that we are merely a state that has to ask for various things. He believed that we could pursue an active policy in the East, while also firmly defending our interests in the European Union. This policy brought truly good results,” said the leader of Law and Justice (PiS), Jarosław Kaczyński, during a ceremony in Parczew.
On Sunday afternoon in Parczew, in the Lublin Voivodeship, an official ceremony was held to inaugurate a roundabout named after the late Prof. Lech Kaczyński. The event gathered local government officials as well as parliamentarians associated with Law and Justice (PiS), led by Jarosław Kaczyński.
After the ribbon-cutting, the PiS leader took the floor, emphasizing that, due to the fact that the ceremony concerned his late twin brother, it was an extremely emotional moment for him. He thanked the local authorities for adopting the resolution to name the roundabout after the late President of Poland.
“This roundabout will be one of the acts of remembrance of my late brother. It is very important that this memory is preserved. In such situations, one can always ask, “why exactly?” (…) My brother, Lech Kaczyński, President of the Republic of Poland, despite his relatively short life, had a long political path. Like many others of his generation, at the time the youngest at universities, he began with the March 1968 events. Then came the opposition of the 1980s,” Kaczyński recalled.
He also listed his brother’s most important achievements, both in politics and in academic work.
“He was a president who pursued a different policy than that of his predecessors. He rejected the belief that a contemporary and modern Poland should be detached from the past, tradition, patriotism, and patriotic heritage. At the same time, he rejected the notion that we are merely a state that has to ask for various things. He believed that we could pursue an active policy in the East, while also firmly defending our interests in the European Union. This policy brought truly good results,” the PiS leader stressed.
