llegal Migration Referendum Heats Up: Morawiecki Thanks Supporters, Floats Bold Proposal

The collection of signatures for the referendum against illegal migration is ongoing. On Monday, the PiS deputy leader thanked Poles who have already supported the initiative. He also presented a proposal concerning the reception of foreigners. It will not be to the liking of the ruling Civic Platform.

Law and Justice is collecting signatures for a referendum against illegal migration. The party underscores that the influx of foreigners leads to a decline in both personal and economic security. “We need to collect 500,000 signatures. We will gather more,” MP Czesław Hoc said at the beginning of April.

On Monday, PiS Vice President Mateusz Morawiecki weighed in on the initiative. The former Prime Minister thanked those who support it and emphasized that illegal migration “can disrupt the entire existing order in the country.” He also put forward an unusual solution.

“We can accept 157 illegal immigrants, if 157 Civic Platform MPs simultaneously go somewhere else. Actually, let’s add that 158th person, Rafał Trzaskowski—the one who said we don’t need the CPK (Central Communication Port) because we’ll have an airport in Berlin. The one who called Nord Stream 2—this Russian-German project—a business venture,”

Morawiecki said.

He then made an appeal: “There really is something to be concerned about, so let’s look after our common home—Poland.”
