A recent CBOS survey commissioned by SGH reveals that 51% of Poles were unaware of Poland’s presidency in the EU Council, set to begin on January 1, 2025. Among those informed, 59% knew it was Poland’s second term. The lack of public awareness may stem from the government’s decision not to hold an official event for the 20th anniversary of Poland joining the EU.
Television Remains the Key Information Source
Despite the rise of digital media, television remains the primary news source, with 57% of respondents learning about the presidency through TV. In contrast, print media continues to decline, registering only single-digit response rates. Online portals are gaining popularity, but traditional media still plays a crucial role in informing the public.
When asked about Poland’s role in the EU, 55% of respondents believed the presidency would strengthen the country’s position. Younger demographics (18–24 years) were the most optimistic (67%), while middle-aged groups were less convinced.
Key Priorities for the Presidency
Survey participants highlighted three main priorities: promoting Poland in the EU (33%), ensuring efficient leadership (29%), and presenting a vision for the Union’s future (28%). Mental health initiatives and border security were the most favored EU goals, while Ukraine’s accession received limited support.
