Magda Linette will face Czech Karolina Pliskova in the 1/4 final of the 2023 Australian Open. The Pole has already achieved her record-breaking singles record in a Grand Slam competition. Now, in a clash for the semifinals, she will compete against a rival she has already played against a total of nine times.
Magda Linette (45th WTA) will fight for the semifinals of the 2023 Australian Open on Wednesday, January 25. The Pole will face Karolina Pliskova (31st WTA) in the 1/4 final.
For Linette, advancing to the quarterfinals of the 2023 Australian Open is her best result in Grand Slam tournaments. So far, the Pole has managed to play in the third round several times. Last season, Magda Linette’s participation in the AO ended in the second round, losing to Russian Daria Kasatkina.
In the fourth round of the 2023 Australian Open, Magda Linette defeated the World No.4 – Caroline Garcia (France) on Monday, January 23. Linette won 7:6, and 6:4, and the match lasted nearly two hours.
“I still can’t believe it. I don’t know what happened,” a breathless and emotional Linette told Jelena Dokic in her on-court interview. “I’m speechless really.”
Earlier on her way to the Australian Open quarterfinals, Linette won against Ekaterina Alexandrova (No.19), Anett Kontaveit (No.16) and Mayar Sherif (No.54).
Four wins in a Grand Slam tournament means not only a lot of prestige and interest. In addition, she will move up in the WTA ranking. Before the start of the Australian Open, she was listed as 45th. In the “live” ranking, which takes into account the results of the AO, the Pole is already 28th, which is the highest place in her career.
