Strong Start for Fręch, But Minnen Strikes Back
Magdalena Fręch began her US Open campaign on a positive note, breaking Greet Minnen’s serve in the opening game and quickly establishing a 2-0 lead. However, Minnen, ranked 70th in the world, soon regained her composure, neutralizing Fręch’s early advantage. The first set remained closely contested, but Fręch faltered at a critical moment, losing her serve in the 12th game, which cost her the set, 5-7.
The second set began unfavorably for Fręch, with the Belgian taking a commanding 4-0 lead. Despite this setback, the 26-year-old Pole fought back to level the score at 4-4. Unfortunately, history repeated itself in the 12th game, where Fręch was broken again, leading to another 5-7 defeat. After a match that lasted nearly two hours, Fręch’s journey at the US Open came to an early end.
