Magdalena Fręch Moves to Second Round at WTA 1000 Cincinnati

Magdalena Fręch has advanced to the second round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Cincinnati, showcasing her resilience with a comeback victory in her opening match. The Polish player triumphed over the higher-seeded Marie Bouzková, securing a 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 win after dropping the first set.

Fręch, who made it into the main draw through the qualifiers, faced a formidable challenge against Bouzková. The match began on a difficult note for Fręch, as she lost the first set 3-6 and then faltered at the start of the second, surrendering her opening service game. However, she quickly rallied, breaking Bouzková’s serve twice. Although Fręch briefly lost her own serve again, she regained control to claim the second set 6-4. A critical break in the tenth game, where Bouzková failed to hold serve and lost to love, marked a turning point in the match.

With momentum on her side, Fręch opened the third set with another decisive break and maintained her lead, ultimately winning the set 6-3. This hard-earned victory sends her into the next round, where she will face a significant challenge against Qinwen Zheng, the Olympic champion from Paris. Their match is scheduled for late Thursday night.
