Matecki pulls out German flag in parliament while speaking about Tusk: “Who do you serve and what are you afraid of?!”

During a session of the Sejm, almost at the very beginning of the proceedings, opposition MPs raised the issue of developments at the Polish-German border.

“Who do you serve? Why, instead of thanking citizen patrols, do you attack, accuse, and insult these people?” — asked Dariusz Matecki, a Law and Justice (PiS) MP, addressing members of the government.

The 38th session of the Sejm began at 10:00 AM. Almost immediately, opposition lawmakers took the floor to discuss the situation at the Polish-German border, particularly in light of the temporary border controls introduced the previous day.

However, the Prime Minister himself, Donald Tusk, was absent from the chamber. Nevertheless, both Jarosław Sachajko (Free Republicans) and Dariusz Matecki (PiS) directed their remarks toward him.

“Who do you serve?!”

“Mr. Marshal, Mr. Prime Minister — absent leader of the largest government in the world — I submit a formal motion for a break and a statement from the Prime Minister on what is effectively the introduction of martial law on our western border. Designating the border crossings with Germany as critical infrastructure is an undemocratic move that makes it harder for Poles to document and hold the authorities accountable. What are you afraid of? The truth?!” – said MP Sachajko.

“Let’s be clear: it was Berlin that deliberately triggered the migration crisis. They drowned Europe in it, and now they expect Poles to foot the bill for their ideological obsession,” he continued.

“Finally, I want to thank the Polish citizens who have dedicated their personal time to defending our western border. You’re doing a great job. German media report that the Border Defense Movement is obstructing Germany’s migration policy. Thank you and congratulations to the Border Defense Movement,” he added, referring to an article from the German outlet DW.

Matecki pulls out a German flag

Following Sachajko, Dariusz Matecki from Law and Justice took the floor.

“Mr. Marshal, just moments ago you were claiming — falsely — that there is no problem at the Polish-German border, that Germany is not sending migrants our way. And yet, I showed you footage of Somali migrants from Szczecin at night. There are many videos showing how Germany is pushing migrants into Poland — using our Border Guard as a taxi service for these people. People who are completely unidentified. We don’t even know if some of them might be murderers being sent into Poland,” he said.

He then addressed the government officials present (though Prime Minister Tusk was not among them):
“Who do you serve? Why, instead of thanking citizen patrols, do you attack them, accuse them, insult them?”

“You prohibit them from using drones or even from documenting what the Germans are doing at the border. Who do you serve? I know the answer. Donald Tusk, who is absent today, clearly serves the German state. So let him not be ashamed of their flag like Rafał Trzaskowski is.”

With that, Matecki pulled out a German flag and placed it at the Prime Minister’s seat. However, it was quickly removed by Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
